Contact Lenses

Disposable Contact Lenses

The most commonly used type of contact lenses are soft disposable contact lenses. Disposable contact lenses usually come as one-day-use lenses (daily contact lenses) or 30-day-use lenses (monthly contact lenses). Daily contact lenses are a great option for patients wanting clear vision without spectacles for sport, social occasions, or part-time wear. Monthly lenses are a good choice for those wanting a more full-time option, with infrequent spectacle use.

Orthokeratology

Orthokeratology (OrthoK for short) is the term for a special type of contact lens technology. OrthoK contact lenses are worn at night, and when removed in the morning, patients are able to experience near-perfect vision without assistance.

This technology works by accurately and gently moulding the front of your eye (the cornea) during the night. With proper care, OrthoK is very safe and reversible, and no long-term change to the structure of your eye. You can enjoy clear vision for as long as you continue wearing the OrthoK lenses, and can stop at any point you choose to return to traditional contact lenses or spectacles.

OrthoK is particularly effective for young, short-sighted (myopic) patients, and has actually been proved to slow the rate at which young eyes become more myopic. Not all patients are suitable for OrthoK, but our optometrists are happy to discuss this option with you.
